Frequently asked questions:
What is Aerial Photography Services' range of operation?
Typically within VA. More distant sites are
considered on a case by case basis.
How do the results compare with traditional aircraft/bucket truck
services?
The robotic helicopter operates from ground level to cloud level; a
range that is most useful to clients. Traditional methods are not able
to work the same useful altitudes.
How soon after a photo session does a customer receive photos?
A temporary website is set up for the client to download pictures by the
evening of the photo shoot. I mail the CD within one day.
What is the nature of the copyrights on photos?
Unless a specific contract is written; photos are copyrighted (property
of APS LLC.) Clients may print their own photos off of the
provided CD, and use them for a variety of purposes via
print or website.
How large of a lot can be framed in a picture taken by this robotic
helicopter?
Oblique photography has many interpretations, a few hundred acres is a
fair answer; orthogonal mapping is a linear process which can
theoretically be adapted to any size lot, and can cover
close to a square mile.
What do sessions cost?
This varies widely due to driving distance. The APS process is in some
cases more affordable than using a fullscale aircraft; that being said
the main reason to use APS is to get a better quality & accuracy
than you may be accustomed to.
What format are the photos delivered in?
Every session involves taking the photos in an 18MP RAW format from a
Canon 7d, and hand processing the photo for the most natural appearance.
The photos you receive are in low-loss JPEG 18mp format.
How long has APS been in business?
Development of the concept and unmanned helicopter systems began as a
business project by Eric Fernandez in late 2003, an operational system
has been in service since 2004.
